How much does a tattoo cost?
Every piece is custom, so the price depends on size, detail, placement and the artist. For a rough figure in a couple of minutes, use our instant quote. Larger projects get a clear estimate at a free consultation, before anything is booked.
How do I book?
Two ways. The instant quote and booking chat gives you a price estimate or books a consultation on the spot. For bigger or more detailed ideas, send our enquiry form and the team will come back to you personally.
How do I choose the right artist?
Every artist at Umbra specialises, so start with the style you love. Browse tattoo styles or our artists, or simply tell us your idea and we'll match you with whoever suits it best.
Do I need a consultation?
For larger or more detailed pieces, yes, and it's free. It's where you and your artist plan the design, placement, price and number of sessions. Smaller pieces can usually be quoted and booked straight away.
Do you take walk-ins?
When an artist is free, yes. If you have someone specific in mind, send an enquiry first so we can make sure they're available.
Do you do cover-ups?
Yes, and they're something our artists do well. What's possible depends on the old tattoo's size, how dark it is and where it sits, so start by sending a clear photo through our enquiry form. We'll match you with the right artist and tell you honestly what will work, including whether a few laser sessions first would give you a better result.
Does it hurt?
Some spots more than others, and it varies a lot from person to person. Our artists are great at keeping you comfortable, with regular breaks whenever you need them. We keep free lollies and soft drinks on hand, and our studio manager makes barista coffees for everyone. Bring headphones, a book, snacks and comfortable clothes: anything that helps you settle in and stay distracted.
How old do I need to be?
18 or over. It's the law in Victoria, and we'll ask for photo ID on the day.
How do I look after a new tattoo?
Keep it clean, lightly moisturised, out of the sun and out of the water while it heals. Our aftercare guide walks you through it day by day.
Do you sell gift vouchers?
Yes, from $50 to $1,000, valid for three years. They arrive by email, or you can pick up a printed card from the studio. Buy a gift voucher.
